Recipe: BBQ Sauce

Most BBQ sauces contain high fructose corn syrups. Even if they don't sugar is still listed as one of the top three ingredients. Homemade BBQ sauce is quite easy to make and is surprisingly delicious.

Here's a BBQ sauce recipe:

BBQ Sauce
(this recipe is adapted from The Diet Rebel's Cookbook)

8 oz. tomato sauce
6 oz. tomato paste
3/4 cup water
3 Tbsp sucanat
1/8 cup apple cider vinegar
3 Tbsp olive oil
1/8 cup honey
1/8 cup molasses
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 medium onion, shredded or chopped
2 tsps chili powder
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsps dry mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp ground cumin
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp dried oregano

Blend all the ingredients together. This BBQ sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to one week.

* For a smokey flavor add 1 to 1 1/2 tsp Liquid Smoke.
