Recipe: Coconut Milk Tonic

Sometimes I don't feel that I'm getting enough calcium in the foods that I'm eating and although coral calcium is a great mineral supplement - I'd like to try to get sufficient calcium through my diet.

I normally turn to these things for my calcium intake:

Kefir

Raw goat or cow milk (used sparingly)

Homemade sprouted almond (with fig) milk

Green drinks (spinach & kale = calcium)

Bone broths

And other things such as broccoli, brussel sprouts or sesame seeds.

Just recently I came across a recipe (one of Sally Fallon's recipes) which is a coconut milk mixture that has the same amount of calories and calcium as milk. I haven't tried it yet but it caught my attention enough that I wanted to post it so I'll have this recipe on hand.

Here's the recipe:

Coconut Milk Tonic

1 can whole coconut milk
2 1/4 cups filtered water
2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
1 tsp pure vanilla
1 tsp dolomite powder (calcium)

I'm excited to try it!

  1. Wish I had had this recipe when my daughter was younger! I was desperate to get more calcium in her as a toddler who was lactose intolerant. We finally found a source for raw goat's milk that worked for her, but his would have been a fun drink even for a kid!

  2. I have a child who has problems digesting milk as well. She handles raw cow's milk okay and raw goat's milk even better. So I'm excited to give her this form of milk.

I agree, this does seem like a fun drink. Coconut sweetened with maple syrup? Yum.
